HHC: When France says no

This decision was announced by ANSM, following studies revealing an abuse and dependency risk equivalent to that of cannabis.

What is HHC?

Having arrived on the drug market in the United States at the end of 2021, HHC was spotted in Europe in May 2022. In less than a year, it was identified in over 70% of EU member countries. Prior to France, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, and the United Kingdom had already banned this substance.

The chemical structure of these products closely resembles that of delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9 THC), a known narcotic. Although its exact effects are still poorly understood, addiction specialists tend to compare them to those of THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis.

A decision applauded... or not

The Union of CBD Professionals applauded this ban, a position they had already recommended last summer. But this decision was met with less enthusiasm from other sector players. In particular, one European supplier expressed dissatisfaction with the rapidity of the ban, leaving companies with stocks of products that were legal one day and illegal the next.
